Welcome to the memorial page for

Robert Daniel Stedman

July 25, 1938 ~ December 23, 2017 (age 79)

Robert Daniel Stedman (Bob) died December 23, 2017 at home surrounded by his family after a long battle with cancer.  He was born on July 25, 1938, in Winona County and married Carol Schossow on October 20, 1962 in Ridgeway, MN.

Bob came from a long line of talented woodworkers.  He spent many hours building wooden model trucks, cars and even a paddle boat for family and friends.  He took classes on lathe work and had been creating inlaid bowls as well as perfecting his scroll saw designs.

Extremely hardworking, Bob started working in the parts department at Owl Motors in Winona.  He trained as a lithographer at Pressman’s Home, Tennessee and then was then employed by Hal Leonard Publishing for 49 years.  Bob also ran a personal printing business from home, printing cards and ballots.  Following a brief retirement, he returned to work in Menards’ electrical department.

Bob enjoyed sharing jokes and stories with his friends at First Congregational Church of Winona, especially the “Souper Thursday” crew.  He was also a member of the Supreme Council of the Scottish Right of Freemasonry, the Osman Shrine (Dragon Patrol of Rochester), and the Masonic Lodge in Pickwick, MN.

His family remembers him for his handmade gifts; story telling; game playing; toy collections; classic car appreciation; country cooking; photography; steadfast work ethic; and his endless encouragement, love, and support.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents Howard Stedman and Pearl (Papenfuss) Stedman, and his sisters Doris (Dean) Jenks and Mary (Donald) Bystrom.

Bob is survived by his wife Carol, and their daughters: Lisa (Mike) Thompson, Kim (Kraig) Penrod, Holly (Christopher) Quinlan, Hope Stedman and Tiffany (Kevin) Stedman Kotowski; and his grandchildren: Michael and Claire Thompson, Jessica and Sylvia Penrod, Nicholas Quinlan, and Milo Kotowski.

The family would like to thank the Winona Area Hospice, especially Laura, Jenny, Michelle, Maureen and Katie for their care over the past 5 months.

Memorials can be sent to The Twin Cities Shriners Hospital for Children and First Congregational Church of Winona.
