Lowell V. Stueve

December 20, 1938 ~ July 1, 2018 (age 79)

Lowell Vernon Stueve, 79 of Winona passed away into eternal life on Sunday, July 1, 2018 at Sauer Healthcare following a short but courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.  He was surrounded with his family by his side.

He was born on December 20, 1938 in Hart, MN to Wilton and Violet (Arndt) Stueve.

He married Alice Bork on November 19, 1966 at St. Martin’s Lutheran Church in Winona, MN. She preceded him in death on July 15, 2014.

Lowell served in the U.S. Air Force from September 1958 to May 1961 as an aircraft mechanic. He then earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Winona State University in June 1964.  He was employed with Fiberite before becoming a Business Manager at Winona Vocational School where he worked until his retirement.

He was a member of St. Martin’s Lutheran Church, Minnesota City Boat Club, Minnwissippi Fishing Club and the American Legion.

His family meant everything to him, especially his wife.  To the many trips taken in their camper and the many travels they went on, one of the most memorable being Alaska.  He was a huge Vikings fan and he will be remembered as an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing.  He liked to dance at the Hilltop Ballroom and the American Legion and he was really good at it too.

He is survived by his two children, Don (Jenny) Stueve and Cheryl (Gary) Thesing; grandchildren, Melissa (Danny) Rivers, Emily Thesing (Ian Zimmerman) and Matthew Thesing; great grandchild, Lincoln Rivers; all of Winona; sister Susie (Neil) Keller of Buffalo City, WI and twin sister Lavonne Suer of Temechula, CA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilton and Violet (Arndt) Stueve, his stepfather John Moss and his brother, Robert Stueve.

Visitation will be from 5 – 7 p.m. on Friday, July 6, 2018 at Fawcett Junker Funeral Home, Winona, MN.

A service of remembrance will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 7, 2018 with visitation one hour prior at St. Martin’s Lutheran Church, Winona with Reverend Richard Moore officiating.  The burial with Military Honors will be at Woodlawn Cemetery.  A lunch will be served in St. Martin’s Lutheran Church basement following the burial.

In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to St. Martin’s Lutheran Church.

The family of Lowell would like to thank Gundersen Hospital, Winona Health Hospice, and Sauer Healthcare for the special care given to him.
