Jean E. (Clark) Rose

October 15, 1926 ~ March 8, 2019 (age 92)

Jean Elizabeth (Clark) Rose, age 92, of Winona died on Friday, March 8, 2019.

Jean was born on a farm near Blue Earth, MN on October 15, 1926 to proud parents William Clark and his wife Nettie Evans. She attended country school near Guckeen and Blue Earth before attending high school in Blue Earth. Following graduation, she attended Teacher Training and began teaching at a country school.

In 1946, she met her future husband, Charles Rose, who was home from the service in the Army in WWII. They married in Blue Earth and started a new life in Willmar, MN where Charles and his brother Sheridan opened a dry-cleaning business. Over the next seven years, Jean gave birth to four children: three sons Michael, Douglas and Steven as well as one daughter Pamela Rose Allen. The family grew and lived together on West 6th Street in Willmar for twenty years.

In 1956, the eldest son Michael graduated from high school and left home for the University of Minnesota. Two years later son Douglas graduated and also left Willmar to study at Dunwoody Institute. Shortly after, Jean and Charles agreed to get a divorce and Jean left Willmar with her two younger children Steven and Pamela. They settled in a rental house in Fairmont, MN to be closer to her siblings living in the Blue Earth area. Jean found a new job as a hospital administrator and started her new life as a single mother.

Over the next few years in Fairmont, Jean continued working at the hospital and Steven and Pamela completed school at Fairmont High School. Douglas finished his technical training, got married and moved to Fairmont to start work as an electrician. Steven left Fairmont to start college at the University of Minnesota and Pamela went to Winona, MN to obtain her accounting degree at Winona Area Technical College.

Jean’s kids continued with their studies and new careers and marriages and of course grandchildren for her. Currently, Jean has 8 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson. Although she is no longer with us, there are more babies coming this year. Jean loved them all. She considered her family to be her greatest accomplishment in her long life.

Jean made her next move to Winona, where she could be close to her daughter and her three young boys. In addition to working at different jobs in Winona, she helped Pamela and her husband Rodney by babysitting and enjoying time with all of the other children in the family who came to visit. As she aged, she moved through different independent living and assisted living environments. Her final home was in Lake Winona Manor in Winona.

She was preceded in death by her ex-husband Charles, daughter Pamela Rose Allen, son-in-law Rodney Allen and her daughter-in-law Betsy Rose.

A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, March 13 at 2:00 p.m. with visitation starting at 1:00 p.m. at Fawcett Junker Funeral Home.
