Helen Marie Blue, age 89, died at Watkins Manor on September 23, 2018.
Born November 5, 1928 in Digby, Nova Scotia to Claude and Elva Bairt. On August 2, 1946 she married Charles Blue.
Helen was one of 5 children and grew up in Boston, Massachusetts. She later moved with her family to Ohio.
She loved puzzles and crocheting. She played guitar and piano and was quite the singer in High School. In fact, she was the only one of her siblings to graduate from High School, which she did in 1946. Her classmates called her “blondie” and was admired for her sharp sense of humor.
Helen was a police dispatcher for several police departments and at one time was the lead dispatcher with the Massachusetts State Police. One of her superiors once said Helen had a toughness that he admired.
Later in life she lived in Ocala, Florida before retiring and moving to Winona in 2007.
She was a devoted wife, loving mother of 3 sons, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She had a terrific sense of humor and was a true friend to many. She overcame many adversities in her life and faced them all with wit, courage and perseverance.
Helen is survived by her children Steve (Ann) of Winona, MN; James (Linda) of Thompson, OH; and her grandchildren Steven, Amanda, Timothy (Christine), Molly, and Hilary; and her 5 great-grandchildren. Helen was preceded in death by her husband Charles, her son Charles Jr., and her 4 siblings.
Services and the Recitation of the Rosary, will begin at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, September 27, 2018, at Fawcett Junker Funeral Home, Winona. Interment will be at Chardon Municipal Cemetery, Chardon, OH. Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Winona Health Grateful Patient Fund.
