Earl H. Flatness, 85, of Winona, passed away on Thursday, May 2, 2019 at Gundersen Medical Center in La Crosse, WI with his family surrounding him.
Earl was born on April 2, 1934 in Worth County, Iowa to Hans and Anna (Peterson) Flatness. Earl was the youngest of eight children. He graduated from Northwood High School in 1952. He enlisted in the Navy and proudly served from 1954 – 1958. Earl married his high school sweetheart, Marjorie Nelson on December 29, 1956 at Deer Creek Valley Lutheran Church in Glenville, MN. Earl attended Mankato State College after the service, graduating in 1961. Marjorie and him moved to Winona in 1963. Earl started working for Watkins CO. He retired in 1997 from Town and Country State Bank.
Earl was an avid MN Twins and Viking fan. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He will be remembered for his yearly, Saturday afternoon Goodview Days party. Earl loved to read the daily Pioneer Press from cover to cover. His favorite meals consisted of lutefisk, lefsa and oyster stew. Earl was a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge 327.
Preceded in death by his parents and 6 siblings, Earl is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Marjorie; children Nancy (Butch) Lilla, of Winona, Cory (Tina) Flatness of Minnetonka, MN; granddaughters Stephanie, Natalie and Katie; sister Arlene Hamsund; many more relatives and friends.
A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, May 6, 2019 at 11:30 a.m. with visitation starting at 10:00 a.m. at Fawcett Junker Funeral Home, Winona, MN. Rev. Linda Helberg will be officiating. Casket bearers will be Stephanie Lilla, Natalie Lilla, Gabe Martin, Zach Perrella, Butch Lilla, Katie Flatness. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to Central Lutheran Church or the Winona Area Humane Society.
