Duane Andrew Engstrand

October 30, 1943 ~ May 26, 2019 (age 75)

Duane Andrew Engstrand, of Cream, WI, died unexpected and peacefully in La Crosse, WI at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital on May 26, 2019, 6:30 p.m.  at the age of 75.

Duane is survived by his wife, Rhoda (Bork) Engstrand of 56 years; he and Rhoda had four sons, Andrew & Karen Engstrand, Ron & Theresa Engstrand, Jim & Cindy Engstrand and Paul & Sarah Engstrand.  There are 13 grandchildren Keith (wife Kristine), Linzi (husband Nate), Clint, Steven, Steffanie, Andrea (husband Kyle), Nicole, Ronnie, Randy, Cole, Ryan, Roman, Rocky. Duane and Rhoda have 6 great grandchildren.  Duane is survived by his four siblings Dale (Robin) Engstrand, Beverly (Mark) Hathaway, Janet (Bern) Cone and Carole (Rocky) Cole.  He is preceded in death by his parents Rose Wolters Korhonen & Raymond Arthur Engstrand and his grandparents Andrew & Susie Wolters.

Duane was born on October 30, 1943, in Alexandria, MN. He graduated from Greenway High School, Coleraine, MN in 1961.  He married Rhoda Rosella Bork of Fountain City, WI, December 8, 1962. Duane & Rhoda met Summer of 1961 in Minneapolis, MN.  Once they were married, they moved to Wisconsin and became dairy farmers. In July 1965 the couple bought a dairy farm in Cream, Wisconsin where Duane became a nationally known Registered Holstein Dairymen. Duane retired in 2013 and lived the rest of his life on the farm. 

His children remember him as a driven man of faith, who taught them a strong work ethic, committed to his family. 

He enjoyed animals, especially his pet cat, Shadow who was with him for over 13 years and was a source of loyal companionship and joy. Duane enjoyed fishing at his Uncle Lloyd’s cabin in Alexandria with his sons, Hunting White Tail Deer on his farm and watching his Grand Children emerge as OUTSTANDING young men and Women. 

Duane was an accomplished farmer and was passionate about Register Holstein cattle.

He loved Classic Rock Music and especially enjoyed going with his Siblings, Children and Grand Children to see such great local bands such as Shadow Dancer, Hallowed Ground, Hairball & many others.

He loved Rhoda with ALL his heart and never left her side and expressed his love and gratitude for his siblings, neighbors, fellow Parishioners and his family. He remained a faithful, active and dedicated member of St. Michael’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Fountain City, WI from marriage to his death.

A wake and viewing will occur at St. Michael’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Wednesday, May 29, 2019 from 4 to 8 p.m.  A Christian funeral is scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday, May 30, 2019, at St. Michael's Evangelical (WELS) Lutheran Church in Fountain City, WI. He will be interred following the funeral at the Fountain City Public Cemetery with a reception to follow at the church.  Pastor Paul Jansen of St. Michael's Lutheran Church will officiate the ceremony. 

All are welcome to attend and celebrate Duane Andrew Engstrand's life. The family would like to thank everyone who has been involved for their efforts during this time.
