Donald W. Thompson, 87 of Fountain City past away this Sunday July 7, 2019 at Gundersen Health Center, La Crosse, WI. Donald was a Man of many hats, he was a draftsman at Wausau Power and Light, Fairbanks Morris, Barber Coleman. He drove school bus for CFC for 12 years and Arcadia for a year, Motor Coach for Minnesota City and he also drove Semi trucks.
After proudly serving his Country for 3 ½ years in the Air force in the Korean War he met his first wife Marjorie while pumping gas where he worked. In 1968 he joined the Wisconsin State Patrol from which he retired in 1988.
Donald & Marjorie had six children, 12 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren.
Don Loved to sing, he was a member of the Winona Hims for 9 years and his church choir. He looked forward to every Tuesday Hims’ practice and was proud to boast that he was their oldest member.
If you ran into Don on the street you would get a smile and a hello along with a pleasant conversation of short or long duration.
He also enjoyed mowing the lawn and wood working as well as ridding his Honda Goldwing on the winding roads of Buffalo County.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, two older sisters and his first wife Marjorie. He is survived by his second wife Rae Anne, six children, 12 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, two sisters, one brother, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral Mass will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday, July 11, 2019, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Pine Creek, WI. Interment will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery with military honors provided by the American Legion Leon J Wetzel Post 9.
Visitation will be 4 – 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 10 at Fawcett Junker Funeral Home, Winona and beginning at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church.
