Betty M. McNally, 94 of Winona, passed away Wednesday, February 13, 2019, at Sugar Loaf Senior Living.
Betty Marie was born January 18, 1925, in Winona, to Roy and Gladys (Lee) Henderson. She grew up in Pickwick, MN, working at the family’s store, Henderson Grocery. She contracted polio at age 12. At the age of 18, she attained her teaching certificate and taught 6 grades in a one room school house at Cooper School. She also taught at Pickwick Elementary and Minnesota City Elementary school where she also served as principal.
On April 28, 1945, she married Bruce E. McNally who was home on leave from the Navy and they had three children: Donald, David and Debra. Betty and Bruce worked together in the construction business in Winona. They built or remodeled hundreds of houses in the Winona area and developed “Pleasant Green Townhouses” and the “Brookview” addition.
Betty was an avid golfer at Winona Country Club and Westfield. She was a member of the Winona Bridge Club and later in life played bridge for many years at Westfield. She was a member of Central Lutheran Church, Winona. Betty like yard sales and antiquing. She was active in Welcome Wagon, Formal Dance Club, and the Birthday Ball. She liked to play the slot machines up at Red Wing.
She is survived by her children: Donald (Charleen) McNally, Fort Pierce, FL; David (Terese) McNally, Winona and Debra (Richard) Pelowski, Vero Beach, FL; eight grandchildren: Christopher, Kimberly, Molly, Samuel, Caitlin, Andy, Emily, and Michaela ‘Micki’; seven great grandchildren: Nathan, Aiden, Max, Leo, Ray, Lucretia, and Kinsley; a sister Doris Beeman, Rochester, MN; a sister-in-law Jean Corey, Everett, WA; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Bruce; her sister Gladys Ruth Tarras and brother Gale Henderson.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 20, 2019, at Central Lutheran Church, Winona with Rev. Michael Short officiating. Interment will be at Pickwick Cemetery.
Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, February 19, 2019, at Fawcett Junker Funeral Home, Winona and beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the church on Wednesday.
