Bernard John Murtaugh, age 95, of Winona, died Friday, March 15, 2019, at Roger Metz Manor, Winona, MN
Bernard (Barney) was born January 20, 1924 in Elroy, Wisconsin to Bernard and Emma (McLain) Murtaugh. He was graduated from Winona Senior High and Winona State University. Graduate work was done at University of Colorado, Greeley. Barney taught in Minnesota Public Schools in Dover, Hayfield, Claremont and Albert Lea. He retired in 1985 and moved to Winona.
On August 19, 1952, he married Beverly Harvey at Central Lutheran Church, Winona and she preceded him in death on January 3, 2017.
Being an avid coin and antique collector, Barney also enjoyed monthly casino trips, cardigan sweaters and Perkins pancakes.
Barney is survived by a sister-in-law, Addy Murtaugh; nephews: Roger (Dana) Reupert, Robert (Jill Clark) Murtaugh, James (Penny) Requarth, Jon (Belinda ) Requarth, Jeff (Cathy) Requarth and Lynn Harvey; nieces: Beth (Kevin) Orenstein, Donna (Robert) Culbertson, Jenne (Will) Burnham and Linda (Randall) Steele.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Emma Murtaugh, wife, Beverly, brother, Robert Murtaugh, and sisters, Chloe Lockwood, Cora Reupert, and Charlotte Requarth.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, March 21, 2019, at Woodlawn Cemetery, Winona, MN.
A Celebration of Life Service for family and friends will be held this summer at the Fawcett Junker Funeral Home.
